Palm Weekend

We've had a fun and busy weekend, and I just wanted to share a few highlights.

Saturday morning I went to a meeting at church where we talked about building-related concerns and goals.  It seems likely we're headed toward a capital campaign and a large renovation project. One of the activities included writing/drawing on large pieces of paper.  I was the only person present with a child under 4, and I was inspired - inspired, I tell you - to draw a cartoon about the less-than-ideal breastfeeding conditions.  I guess it did the trick to get people considering the needs of young parents and their kids, but it's not the kind of artistic notoriety one hopes for.

Saturday evening we had friends over for Pizza Night: Kelly, Amy, Jason, and Drew.  Last time they were over, Kelly was pregnant, and Liam got stitches.  This time, Will got to feed the cute little chubby happy bundle that is now Drew, and there were no injuries. For dessert, I pulled out the tried-and-true hot fudge sauce recipe from The Farm.  Fudge brownie "palm sundaes" were a huge hit with kids and adults alike.  We even had cherries on top.

This morning, Sunday, I ran a 5K race with a group of coworkers.  I've been working on my speed for the past couple of months, and my goal was to finish in 32 minutes, which would be a personal record.  Official time, 30:39!!  (My secret: Liam cast a speed spell on me with his magic wand.) It was a tough run, with a strong wind in my face through most of the middle mile, but it felt great to blow away the goal.

Since I missed Palm Sunday worship at my church, I took the kids to the celebration at St. Paul's in the afternoon.  We processed through the neighborhood, singing in English and Spanish, handing out palm branches and blessing everything we passed.  Afterward there was an informal worship service, and of course food. (As a congregation that is both Lutheran and largely Hispanic, St. Paul's always has a LOT of food.)

When we got home, all four of us had a nap!
