At Will's grandma's funeral a couple weeks ago, a woman introduced herself as Barbara, the daughter of Betty's friend Mary. I had met Mary a few times, and once gave her a ride home from Betty's birthday party. As I recall, I was pregnant with Liam at the time, and this 80-some-year-old woman took my arm in case I slipped on the ice! Mary passed away last year. I told Barbara how much I had enjoyed her mother. I'm glad to hear that, Barbara said, because I want to ask you a favor...
When Mary died, she had been knitting a baby blanket. It was almost done, and Barbara was not confident enough in her own knitting skills to be able to finish it. According to Barbara, she mentioned this to Betty last time she saw her, and Betty said she thought I would be able to help.
So I finished the blanket. Liam wrapped himself up in it to make sure it was snuggly enough. Barbara picked it up today, and now it will go to Mary's great-grandchild, due to be born in August. Her intention is to pass it around to new babies in the family, so that all of them can be wrapped up in Mary's needlework - and mine.
What an honor to be chosen to complete this work of love!
Cool story!!!
