Right after the potty training fiasco, Liam decided that although he is quite fond of diapers, he did want to ditch his crib. Will hauled a mattress upstairs on a Sunday afternoon, and Liam was thrilled to have his nap on it.
We raised our eyebrows at the bumps and crashes we were hearing, but did not intervene. When his time was up, I went upstairs to find him playing in OUR room with the safety latch he'd removed from the bathroom cupboard. Toys and books were everywhere.
We had a talk.
That night, Liam recited his mantra before bed time: "I'm not gonna open the door." And sure enough, he didn't open the door all night. He's only done it once in three weeks, when he had a nightmare, and he came trembling to our door - not opening it but calling to us from the hall.
Then Liam had a suggestion. Could his baby brother sleep in the crib? Wow, great idea!
