A month ago, we had an infant who was rather serious and ham-fisted and who downright refused to stand up. He sure has changed! Last night Liam held on to a chair and stood without any help. He has 6 - count 'em - SIX teeth, four on top and two on the bottom. He sits quite well, he babbles, he can pick up cheerios, and best of all, he laughs. Sure, he let out a giggle here and there before, but now we can really get him going.
I haven't updated this for a while so I'll summarize what we've been up to.
At the end of August Liam and I went to Oshkosh and stayed with my parents a couple of nights. Laura and Brad and their girls brought their tent over and put it up in the back yard the first night. After putting Liam to bed, I went out to the tent, and it was full of wiggling 4-year-old. (I didn't hear a peep from Brad. I think he was hiding under the cot, trying to shut out Linnea's exuberance.) The big news from them is that they're in the process of selling their house and buying a new one.
The second night we were there, Mom and Dad hosted a Lemke get-together. I'll admit I was a bit worried about my relatives consuming the double whammy of baked beans AND broccoli salad, and then spending hours together in an enclosed space. But it worked out okay. I miss being around to hear all their funny stories.
Labor Day weekend we were at the Hinds cabin again. Liam was reunited with the Doodles and Will and I got to go on a boat ride all the way around the lake. It was kind of a cloudy weekend but nothing like the downpour that hit Minneapolis. It has been another dry summer, and the rain was welcomed by our crispy grass. We have only mowed the lawn 4 times this year.
Last weekend we went to a Peruvian dinner party - Peruvian food, American hosts - in fact, our hosts used Google to translate the saltados recipe from Spanish, and it said "the chicken drinks himself wine." Meanwhile, Liam stayed home with Grandpa and M.K. He had been practicing D sounds all day, doo doo dah, ah di di dah, etc. So he said what sounded like "I didn't." M.K. said, "If you didn't, then who did?" And Liam replied, "Dad-dy."
