I came home from El Salvador yesterday. There were a few magical hours when I appreciated this and a lot of other little details about life in North America, and my home, and my family. I wish I could hold on to that sense of gratitude. But it dissipates quickly. I wish I could summon at will that middle place, between the enchantment of el Salvador and the comfort of home, where awareness foments like a breaking wave.
Tonight, I sat by the fire and pressed my fingers into the shapes of chords, while Timothy strummed out a song he was making up, which he called "Loveness of God."
