| Liam walking to the bus on the first day of 2nd grade |
TJ got to hang out for a couple days with grandparents, and then he started school on Wednesday. He's not in Kindergarten yet, but you wouldn't guess it from the way he struts around with his backpack. He's in the pre-K program at our elementary school, and it's the same hours as the rest of the school. He rides the bus, goes to science and gym classes, eats in the cafeteria, and attends the assemblies in the auditorium.
I want to remember Timothy's first morning forever. ...How he was so excited to put his Spider Man shirt on, and then his backpack, and he ran to the bus stop with Liam. When the bus came down our street, he squealed and jumped up and down. He climbed the steps of the bus, and said good morning to the driver just like we had practiced, and then he turned around and beamed at me and waved. "Bye Mom!" He doesn't even call me Mama any more. Big kid.
And then Wednesday night I got the phone call...school cancelled for the rest of the week due to heat. Much of the school building is not air conditioned, and I bet it was 100 degrees in Liam's classroom. So Thursday, after saying a tearful goodbye to Jeannie just a week before, we were back at daycare. Friday, we had an auspicious trip to the coffee shop which probably deserves its own post, and Grandpa Bill took the kids for the rest of the day.
We're looking forward to next week, after Labor Day, when things get back to normal again and we start our new routine with two kids in elementary school. It's going to be a good year, I can feel it.
