Spring Break: Chicago

We just got back from a five day trip to Chicago, during Liam's school break, with our friends the Butlers. Here's a quick recap in photos, courtesy of my phone.

Tuesday - We arrived in time for breakfast at the hotel, then out to the Field Museum, swimming, and deep dish pizza.

Wednesday - I think we were at the science museum for about 7 hours. The model train layout was a big hit. Thanks to a tip from a friend, we discovered Eleven Diner, which has malts and pastrami and knishes and big jars of penny candy.

Thursday - Happy birthday to Katherine! We browsed the Lincoln Park Zoo all morning and saw an adorable baby gorilla. Will and Ben went to a Blackhawks game in the evening while moms and kids stayed in.

Friday - We visited the planetarium in the morning. TJ is interested in space and can recite all sorts of facts about the solar system, but oddly, I think his favorite part was burying plastic fruit in wood chips. While we were on the CTA bus we waved to Grandpa Bill, who happened to also be in Chicago for work. In the afternoon we rode the elevator to the top of the Hancock Tower for a panoramic view, and then out for a final Italian dinner together.

Liam says this was one of the best vacations ever, and maybe we should move to Chicago. He fit right in, slouching in his seat on the city bus. Timothy had a good time too, and especially enjoyed the L trains, though the pace and level of stimulation were a bit much for him at times.
