Weekend in Wisconsin

Picking apples. We also got pears,
maple syrup, and blackberry jam,
squash, gourds and a pumpkin!
We picked up Liam a little early from school last Friday, and headed to Wisconsin for the weekend. They kids had a good time playing with Grandma and Grandad and their cousins, and picking apples.

Okay, I guess the weekend was mostly about food. We came pack with probably 60 pounds of produce, and now there are two giant bags of apples in our garage, and enough butternut squash to last until Christmas. Will and I got to go out for dinner Saturday night while my folks put the kids to bed. We chose the Apollon in Appleton, which serves Greek food with a Wisconsin flair: huge servings, covered with [feta] cheese. Laura cooked yummy tomatillo soup for lunch, and we made apple cider flavored cookies with melted caramels in the middle. So yeah, basically I stuffed my face for three days.

The timing of the trip was so that Will could run in the Fox Cities Marathon. He ran the half, and set a personal record! It was great running weather, and a well organized race. Afterward, the kids were playing on the Rocket at the park in Neenah, and Timothy went down one of the slides head first, crash landed, and lost a shoe. But then we made it all better by going out for...yup...more food. Breakfast at the local diner, with an enormous waffle for Liam and a chocolate chip Mickey pancake for TJ.

Look at this cutie pie, climbing on the pumpkins.
All this writing about food puts me in the mood to make an apple pie...

We saw this double rainbow on the way there.
