| Posing in my running gear, in front of the US Capitol |
Miles 75-78 were outside, on a gorgeous sunny day that launched the spring melt. I was no match for the puddles. After the first block I was soaked to my ankles, and wondering if I should have stayed on the treadmill.
This past week I was in Washington DC, attending an international nonprofit technology conference. One early morning, I jogged up and down the National Mall, and watched the sun rise over the capital building. Exercise tourism! At the end I swung around the east end of the capitol and started running up the steps a la Rocky, but then thought better of it, when I saw the guard leering at me from behind his giant rifle at the top of the stairs. Instead, I sat down and stretched. Reaching for my toes, I had one of those goose bump moments, doing something so mundane in such an auspicious place.
From a business perspective, the DC trip was a big success. From a wellness perspective...add 1 point for sticking to my running routine, subtract 2 points for getting a cold and sniffling my way toward another sinus infection.
