Since shortly before Timothy was born, I've had a nesting urge which manifests itself as a desire to bake bread. For Christmas I got a cookbook, full of recipes for baking yeast breads that don't require the usual kneading, rising, punching down, and rising again. I was skeptical, but I baked my first loaf today, and it turned out brilliantly - especially considering the amount of effort involved. The most time consuming part is cleaning the pans. (And that's Will's job!)
For the next batch, I will try the whole wheat recipe. If that turns out well, Great Harvest will never get another dime from us.
I'd like to know the name of that cookbook - I have some bread baking fantasies I'd like to fulfill.

The book is called Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day. Order it from my favorite bookstore: http://www.powells.com/biblio/1-9780312362911-0
ReplyDeleteThe whole wheat was really good! It's a tiny bit sweet, and still moist after 4 days. I baked it as a free form loaf, rather than in a bread pan as the recipe suggests.
