Final verdict on the Pod

After a two night stay in The Pod, my conclusion was: fun experience, good value for Manhattan, but not for pregnant women.

When you have to get up and go to the bathroom 3-4 times a night, it is not convenient to have the bathroom located down a public hallway.  On one of these bathroom treks during my second night, I left without turning the light on in my room, reaching over to the desk to grab my room keycard on the way out.  It turned out that I had grabbed my subway pass, not my keycard, and I was locked out.
