Mrs. Fix-it

Well, we've made a few repairs. After the previously mentioned travails, and a stern lecture from Bob at Settergren's Hardware regarding the perils of do-it-yourself garage door fixing, we decided to call a Professional Garage Door Fixer. His name is Wade, and he has a brisk Minnesota accent. "Oh yah, yer cable is lookin a little worn there. What ya need is one a them tortion springs, they're not too bad." Liam was spellbound. He watched, wide-eyed, as Wade shuffled around adjusting things and making unusual noises and muttering things in Minnesotan.

Liam had a few more smiles for Chad, the friendly plumber, who had to knock a big hole in our bathroom ceiling in order to access the pipes upstairs and fix the leak. I've spent the past four evenings cleaning up after him, measuring and cutting and taping and mudding and sanding wallboard.

Today is my day off - from work, as well as fixing the house. I went downtown to have lunch with Will and let him show off the baby to his coworkers. Back at home, I baked some yams for Liam, and now the whole house smells like Thanksgiving.
