Uncles and Ants

We were in Wisconsin recently for a long weekend. Liam got to meet his Uncle Brad, Aunt Laura, and cousins Linnea and Natalie. I had fun playing pretend with Linnea, and we celebrated my 32nd birthday with the first grilled burgers of the season.

One of the highlights of the trip for me was going to craft night with my sister at her church, where I discovered the secret society of Christian scrap-bookers. Okay it's not secret, but it is definitely a subculture. Laura is an introvert, but I'd say she was by far the most outgoing person in this group. They probably would have diligently clipped and stamped and fastened in silence all evening if Chatty Karen hadn't been there. Maybe scrap books require more concentration than I realized...?

When we got home, there were winged ants all over the upstairs bathroom, fighting, the winners still alive and the losers torn to bits. It seems a colony of carpenter ants has taken up residence in some rotted wood in our bathroom wall. We had to have an exterminator out to get rid of them. Ick!
