On St. Patrick's Day, Liam smiled at us for the first time. He is changing so fast! In the past week he has discovered toys. His version of playing is to stare at things and wave his arms, but he does seem to enjoy things that are colorful and jingly. It's hard to believe he is already one month old.
We're settling into some semblance of a routine. In the mid morning he is typically awake and in a pretty good mood, so he spends some time on his tummy, and then he looks at the mobile over his crib while I take a shower. In the afternoon he takes a nap, whether he wants to or not - he's not a big sleeper during the day. A couple of times a grandma or grandpa has been here to cuddle him while I catch forty winks in my own bed. Evening is fussy time - poor Will hardly gets to see him on weekdays except when he's in a bad mood - so Will and I take turns cooking dinner, cleaning up, and soothing the boy until bed time. Then we rock, sing some songs, and if it's a good night Liam sleeps for about three hours between night feedings. (If it's a bad night, he sleeps for 15 minutes between feedings.)
My mom was here for 5 days last week, and was that ever nice. I caught up a little bit on household chores and I even found time to clean out a closet to make room for all of Liam's gear. Mom is great with him, very attentive and able to interpret all of his cries and coos, a first class grandma.
